İNSBRUCK. SPÖ provincial head loves post-fascist: No problems for the party (yet)
Alessia Ambrosi of Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia party has publicly announced her relationship with Tyrolean SPÖ leader Georg Dornauer. There is a proverb, “When the heart decides, even ideological differences cannot stop love”. Opposite is another Turkish proverb “Did the pot find its rolled lid?”. SPÖ leader representing Austria’s right wing within the party Georg Dornauer and Italian post-fascist 41-year-old right-wing politician Alessia Ambrosi they fell in love with each other like a bomb in the Austrian press. “After all, opposite poles attract…“ This inexplicable strange relationship draws attention. Italy’s Post-fascist politician and Austria’s famous social democrat met in 2019, now Italian Ambrosi has formalized the relationship on social media by saying “enough is not enough”. Dornauer, from the Austrian SPÖ, is trying to close the case by saying, “One is politics, the other is a private relationship.”

Politically, it was learned that the SPÖ did not want Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to have the slightest affiliation with the post-fascist party Fratelli d’Italia. This is particularly the case last 24 June at the provincial party conference in St Pölten, the capital of Lower Austria, where the SPÖ administration met Chancellor Karl Nehammer and State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, both ÖVPs, at the Göttweig Abbey at the same time as Meloni. This was made clear by his harsh criticism of her for meeting at the Wachau European Forum and receiving her warmly. Even SPÖ MP Andreas Schieder had this to say on this subject: “In Wachau, the Governor of Lower Austria, ÖVP Mikl-Leitner, is rolling the red carpet for the post-fascist Italian head of government, Giorgia Meloni, who is the icon of the European right. Another clear signal in which direction the ÖVP is developing.”

Georg Dornauer, deputy governor of the Tyrolean SPÖ, should have less trouble with the post-fascists in Italy – at least in private. Prime Minister Meloni announced in an interview with Corriere del Trentino that he had an affair with MP Alessia Ambrosi from his party. “We are certainly not the first case where people of different faiths and ideas have fallen in love,” the 41-year-old politician explained. „Two hearts united, two different parties.“

40-year-old Georg Dornauer was not so talkative to the media. He simply made the following statement: „One is politics, the other is a private relationship. I definitely separate these two and I want the media to respect that as well.”

In Innsbruck, they do not believe that the Vienna party center on Löwelstraße will have a problem with this. They know that, according to the Tyrolean SPÖ, Dornauer can distinguish between politics and private life very well. There was no official comment on the relationship, which was made public in Vienna.

It is possible that Dornauer has known the Italian from Trentino since 2019, who is divorced and has a daughter. As Alessia Ambrosi explained in an interview, they had met at meetings of regional politicians at the time. Politically exciting – despite the secrecy – Ambrosi is in charge of immigration in Italy. In an interview just this week, Dornauer demanded a more restrictive policy from the SPÖ, unlike federal party leader Andreas Babler.

Bolognese and language course

Ambrosi, a former “Miss Trentino”, is divorced and has a daughter. Rumors of her affair with the Tyrolean SPÖ leader have been circulating for some time, and the first photos of the duo were released weeks ago.

The two met in Bolzano in 2019, then met at the regional parliament in Merano. Ambrosi told the Italian newspaper that he soon asked for Dornauer’s phone number and called him “under an excuse”.

Besides the political barrier, there is also a language barrier to overcome. Ambrosi says that Dornauer does not speak Italian and he does not speak German. Compromise: „I am learning German, he is learning Italian. We will speak English first.

She had Italian Calabra blood.

And he tells more specific stories: Dornauer has Italian Calabrian blood from his grandfather and “loves” the spaghetti bolognese he cooked for him.

Confirming this, but slightly less inspiring in the public eye, 40-year-old Dornauer told the APA: “One is politics, the other is a private relationship. I strictly distinguish between the two and I want the media to respect that as well.”
