Beijing: New Omicron sub-variants have been discovered amid rising cases of Covid-19 in China. The new Omicron sub-variants are BF.7 and BA.5.1.7. BF.7 found in the North West areas is spreading to more areas. BA.5.1.7 variant is reported for the first time in the country. Reports indicate that both are highly transmissible.

After a week-long National Day celebration, cases have risen again in China, official sources said. 1878 cases were reported on Sunday. This is the highest figure since August 20. The increase in cases is attributed to new Omicron sub-variants.

The report suggests that the BF.7 sub-variant detected in the North-West region has spread to more provinces. Earlier, the World Health Organization had also warned about the BF.7 sub-variant. Although China has taken many measures to control the cases, it has not been able to stop the spread of the virus.
