Two people died in the fire in Madona; two more drowned on Tuesday / Day

Last night around 1 o’clock VUGD received information that a residential house was on fire in Madona. At the scene, the firemen found that the residential house was burning with an open flame in the entire area and that its roof had caved in. The first floor of the building burned 200 square meters and the roof another 200 square meters. The spread of the flames was limited within three hours, but the work at the scene ended around 7 in the morning.

During the extinguishing work, two dead people were found in the building, but one person was able to leave the burning building before the firemen arrived.

Firefighters rescued the deceased from a water body in Aglona parish of Preiļu district yesterday morning, and at ten in the evening the deceased was retrieved from the river Daugava in Riga. The deceased were handed over to the State Police.

In total, VUGD received 53 calls during the past 24 hours: 13 – for firefighting, 25 – for rescue operations, and 15 calls were false. Firefighters responded to calls involving a gas stove, trash, a gazebo, hay, dry grass and a car on fire.
