The field of possibilities seems endless. Didier Janot and his associate Antoine Quinzin have not yet made an exhaustive list of the applications that open up to them in other sectors of activity thanks to their process of micro-encapsulation of active products. They have already imagined spectacle frames capable of repelling mosquitoes, ticks or lice. “Visual correction is the first function of a glasses, our invention makes it possible to offer an additional option: to diffuse a perfume or to prevent insect bites. It’s very subtle, the smell is slightly perceptible,” explains Didier Janot, co-founder of the company 15-1 Diffusion.

“We are contacted by large groups and manufacturers”

Glasses also capable of diffusing fragrances of your favorite perfume over a long period of time. An invention that hit the mark last September at the Salon Mondial de l’Optique in Paris. The Reims duo presented their innovation called Aloha. “Since then, we have been contacted by large groups and manufacturers who have specific needs. They want to carry out projects with us,” enthuses Didier Janot.

Why not the smell of a mother on a cuddly toy?

An innovation that is not reserved for glasses. Because, beyond being injected into a material like plastic, the micro-encapsulation process can be deposited in the form of a layer on any support: fabric, glass, wood, etc. “Each time, you have to do tests and conduct laboratory studies. But this innovation lends itself to all sectors of activity. We hope that certain projects will quickly see the light of day,” adds Didier Janot. But the field of optics is their favorite subject: in 2014 the duo founded a company dedicated to the manufacture of glasses made from bio-sourced materials under license from major brands: Mauboussin, Armor-lux and Alpine.

The Aloha augmented glasses will therefore be released in 2024. The first models will protect against lice and mosquitoes. “And the process will be integrated into other ranges of glasses, it is an option that will be available to customers depending on the brand or model chosen. But it will be almost painless in terms of the price of the frames,” assures Didier Janot.

At the same time, the Marne duo wishes to continue the exploitation of their discovery by creating a research and design laboratory in Reims. And why not imagine more personalized products: like putting a mother’s scent on her baby’s favorite comforter or inventing the tent of tomorrow whose fabric will benefit from a micro-encapsulation of an anti-mosquito product…
