Astronomers from the Brazilian University of Sao Paulo have reported the discovery of two new exoplanets, HIP 104045: HIP 104045 c, orbiting a sun-like star 175 light-years from Earth.

The researchers rely on the radial velocity (RV) method to discover exoplanets and detect differences in the speed of the star as it orbits the star. Thanks to this technology, 600 exoplanets have been discovered so far.

HIP 104045 b has a minimum mass of about 0.5 Jupiter masses and orbits its host star every 2,315 days, at a distance of about 3.46 AU. While the mass of “HIP 104045 c” is not less than 0.136 of the mass of Jupiter, and its orbital period is 316 days.
