Two servicemen of the Russian army were killed during the landing as part of joint exercises with Belarus, TASS reports with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“As a result of a sudden strong gust of wind near the ground, parachutists of two contract servicemen, who had highly qualified parachute training instructors, descended. The domes of both paratroopers went out … Despite the efforts of the doctors, both Russian servicemen under contract died from their injuries, ”the defense ministry explained.

The ministry added that one of the dead servicemen tried to save himself and the second deceased colleague with a reserve parachute. The accident happened during the landing near Grodno.

Earlier today, Russian and Belarusian paratroopers held exercises in the Grodno region of Belarus. The exercises involved, among other things, heavy Russian military transport aircraft Il-76, as well as helicopters of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus. After the landing, the Belarusian and Russian paratroopers completed several combat training missions.

The exercises were a response to the actions of Poland, which began to draw up an army to the border with Belarus amid the migration crisis that worsened this week.
