The South Korean Coast Guard said Monday that six peopel among the passengers of a capsized ship off the country’s southeastern coast were found in cardiac arrest.
south Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported that the six people were among eight crew members of the 29-ton fishing vessel “Jumgwang” when it collided with a 456-ton cargo ship and capsized in the waters near the city of Jeonju,about 270 kilometers southeast of Seoul,in At 5:43 a.m., Monday.
The search is still ongoing for the remaining two people.
The authorities stated that there were ten people on board the cargo ship, but none of them were harmed, and the ship did not suffer any apparent damage.
The Coast Guard sent patrol ships, rescue ships and helicopters to the accident site, and also requested support from the Ministry of oceans and Marine, the korean Navy, and fire-fighting authorities.
South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo had previously ordered an emergency rescue operation.
