Two earthquakes, the stronger of which had a magnitude of 6.1, shook eastern Taiwan’s Hualien County, Reuters reported, citing the Taiwan Meteorological Service.

There are no reports of damage at this time.

The earthquakes were recorded with a pause between them of about half an hour. Earthquakes were felt in the capital, Taipei.

The first earthquake had a depth of 24.9 km, and the second – with a magnitude of 5.8 and a depth of 18.9 km, writes BTA.

Taiwan has been rocked by more than a thousand aftershocks since the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Hualien earlier this month, killing 17 people.

Taiwan is located where two tectonic plates meet and is prone to earthquakes.

Over a hundred people died in an earthquake in southern Taiwan in 2016, and in 1999 the island was rocked by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people.
