TRENTO. The Strembo Haflinger, the Guinness-worthy wooden horse that bears the sculptor’s signature, weighs two thousand kilos and is seven meters tall Marco Martalar. This morning (27 April) the inauguration of the largest statue in Europe with this subject: a true celebration of the people in which the associations of the Giudicarie, hundreds of citizens and the administrators of the territory took part.
The Vaia wood through which the Haflinger took shape represents the forest, the environment, the work, the strength and the warmth of the mountain people. To make this majestic horse inside the Giorgio Ducoli park approximately two thousand pieces of larch root were used, which come from different areas of the Giudicarie – from Madonna di Campiglio to Storo – assembled with eighteen hundred vines. To have a horse hair effect the roots were mechanically deflated.
A work of precision, which required three months of work. The idea for the creation came from the cultural association Strembo e Tradizione, led by president Paolo Masè, who wanted to dedicate an attraction to the town and Val Rendena in which they could be reflected.
The Haflinger horse – it was explained – was in the past the modern tractor for agriculture in the area. Today it has become a companion on long hikes and adventures as well as a tourist attraction. And the work itself has already become an attraction, both for the people of Trentino and for those who choose this area as a holiday destination.
The president of the Province Fugatti highlighted how the large participation in the presentation of this fifth work by Martalar in Trentino is a tangible symptom of the bond between the local communities and the mountain area that the Trentino people consider to be their home.
