Namakkal: The police department in Namakkal has made a breakthrough in the case of child selling, leading to the arrest of two Tiruchengode government female obstetricians and brokers. Following their arrest, one of the doctors was dismissed from her position, while the authorities launched an active investigation into the issue of child trafficking.

The power loom worker, C. Dinesh (29) from Valaraigad area in Tiruchengode, contacted the police after being approached by a woman named Lokampal (38) from Tiruchengode Sanarpalayam. Lokampal had reportedly offered to buy Dinesh’s third-born baby girl for Rs.2 lakh. Dinesh refused and lodged a complaint at the Tiruchengode police station on 12th. Subsequently, the police registered a case, confirming the attempted sale of the child.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Lokampal was involved in brokering child sales and that obstetrician Anuradha from Tiruchengode Government Hospital was involved in these activities. As a result, both doctors were arrested by the Tiruchengode police department and produced in court, leading to their imprisonment. Additionally, the Health Minister M. Subramaniam ordered the dismissal of female doctor Anuradha from her position.

In light of the case, Rajmohan, Joint Director of Namakkal District Welfare, conducted an investigation at Tiruchengode Government Hospital to explore the connections between hospital workers and child-selling brokers. The investigation also followed up on the legal proceedings against the accused doctor, Anuradha. Concurrently, the District Superintendent of Police S. Rajeskannan directed the creation of a special force led by Tiruchengode Police DSP Imayavaramman to address the issue of child trafficking. This Special Police Force is actively engaged in a comprehensive investigation into child selling activities.

This incident has caused a stir considering a similar case a few years ago, where individuals from Salem, Erode, and Namakkal districts were arrested for involvement in the sale of babies born in Kollimalai. The previous case is still pending in court. Now, the involvement of a government obstetrician in child selling has further highlighted the severity of the issue.

The authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to this heinous crime involving innocent children. The investigations continue, and the police are working diligently to identify any additional individuals involved in the illegal child selling network.
