No respite for hospitals from online hackers. The Western Vosges Hospital Center announced on Saturday that it was the victim of a cyberattack which led to the suspension of scheduled consultations and surgical interventions.

This cyberattack concerns the two sites of the hospital center, in Vittel and Neufchâteau, whose computer systems “were immediately confined”, indicates the hospital center in a press release. A crisis unit was assembled.

“We stopped the computer servers and many things went back to paper format,” explained a communications manager at the establishment. Continuity of care for hospitalized patients is ensured and emergencies are open normally on the Neufchâteau site.

Consultations and surgical interventions suspended

On the other hand, scheduled activities, consultations and surgical interventions are suspended until Tuesday inclusive and patients whose hospitalization was planned will be contacted. Chemotherapy will be provided, said the hospital center.

“There have been black screens and our system is no longer working. We are therefore in cyberconfinement”, explains to our colleagues at Vosges Morning, Dominique Cheveau, director of these two hospitals. Emergency services remain open.

To reach the two nursing homes dependent on the hospital center, replacement telephone lines have been set up. The western Vosges hospital center has around 1,200 employees across all sites.

Just a month ago, the Saint-Vincent hospital center in Strasbourg was already targeted by a computer attack, causing a widespread outage within its premises, reported Rue89 Strasbourg and Numerama. More than thirty establishments were affected by the cyberattack.
