A 71-year-old woman from Pongau and a 54-year-old woman from Flachgau were victims of internet fraud, the police reported in a broadcast on Saturday.
In May this year, a 71-year-old woman from Pongau fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam. The woman came across an allegedly lucrative investment opportunity via an Internet platform. The contact with the unknown perpetrators was always through the news service and calls, the police reported. The lady first transferred a three-digit amount and was able to see how the first apparent trades were placed with her deposited money. Overall, the Pongau woman transferred money in the lower five-digit range. After no payment was ever made, the woman contacted a lawyer.
Identity used by Flachgauerin for online purchases
Another fraud occurred with a 54-year-old woman from Flachgau. The woman’s identity was used by an unknown person and used for online clothing purchases. The clothes were delivered to Styria. There was damage of several hundred euros, the investigation is ongoing, it said.
