The Azerbaijani women’s team has two years to prepare for the 2026 European Championship at home.

As reported by İdman.biz, if previously the tournament was held every two years, now its schedule has been changed. The last time EURO was held was last year, and now it will be held in 2026.

This step by the European Volleyball Confederation is connected with the decision of the International Federation (FIVB) to change the format of the Volleyball World Championship. If previously the World Championship was held every four years, now it is held every two years. According to the calendar, the first World Championship of this format will take place in 2025. Therefore, the EURO was postponed to 2026.

The final stage of EURO will be held in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Turkey, with Baku hosting matches of one group. At the moment, 12 teams out of twenty-four have been determined that will perform in the final stage. In addition to the hosts, including the Azerbaijani team, the championship will feature teams that secured this right based on the results of the last EURO. These are Serbia, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Slovakia.

The remaining teams will be announced after the qualifying tournament, which will begin this year and end next year.
