Following their elimination from the National League Division Series on Wednesday, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tyler Mahle expressed a clear desire to remain with the organization. The 32-year-old veteran right-hander, who revitalized his career after a midseason trade, is set to enter free agency this winter with a strong preference for a return to Atlanta.
Tyler Mahle Delivers Resilient Performance in Postseason Loss
Tyler Mahle’s tenure in Atlanta concluded after the Braves fell 4-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLDS, ending the team’s postseason run with a 3-1 series loss. Despite the elimination, Mahle delivered a resilient performance, holding the Dodgers at bay for 6.1 innings to give his team a chance to win.

In his nine regular-season starts for Atlanta, Mahle posted a 1.99 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with 48 strikeouts across 54 1/3 innings. The right-hander also proved effective in the postseason overall, allowing just two hits and two earned runs across 13 1/3 innings, including holding the Phillies to one run over seven innings in the Wild Card Series.
Interest in a Braves Reunion
When asked about the possibility of re-signing with the Braves during the upcoming offseason, Mahle offered an enthusiastic response regarding his time with the club. Manager Walt Weiss praised the impact of the midseason addition, noting, Mahle has been unbelievable,
and stating that his performance changed the team’s rotation. Braves third baseman Austin Riley also highlighted his importance, remarking, He's been very valuable for us ever since he came over this year.

“For sure. It’d be crazy for anyone not to want to be here. This place is awesome, and there’s no other way to put it. It’d be crazy not to want to play here.”

Mahle’s market value may have increased following his successful stint in Atlanta, as he may now be able to secure a multi-year deal. However, he remains ineligible for a qualifying offer because he was traded mid-season.
Rotation Uncertainty for 2027
Spencer Strider and Hurston Waldrep combined for only 11 appearances, while Spencer Schwellenbach and Joey Wentz did not pitch at all. Reynaldo Lopez, Bryce Elder, and Martin Perez were unavailable for the postseason.
Although the team added depth at the trade deadline—including Lane Thomas, Bailey Falter, Brent Suter, and Tyler Uberstine—the stability of the starting rotation remains a priority.
