Typhoon Khanun is the sixth typhoon of the season in the Pacific and was classified as “very strong” in intensity. The extreme weather event caused the suspension of flights from the city of Naha, the interruption of electricity for over 200,000 people and the evacuation of 600,000 residents. The Okinawa archipelago remains on weather alert for the risk of floods and landslides until the end of August.

On 2 August, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites captured this image of the eye of the typhoon as it is approaching Okinawa with a speed of 220 km/h.
