Typhoon No. 5 to Approach Tohoku Region
Heavy rain and strong winds expected as typhoon approaches Tohoku
A typhoon currently located east of Japan is expected to make landfall on the Pacific side of the Tohoku region on the weekend. This will bring strong winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding.
Expected impacts:
Heavy rainfall: Accumulated rainfall of over 200mm is possible in some areas, leading to flooding and landslides.
Strong winds: Strong winds of up to 35 meters per second are expected along the Pacific coast of Tohoku.
Coastal erosion: High waves will cause coastal erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.

Aomori Prefecture: 9%
Iwate Prefecture: 30%
Miyagi Prefecture: 42%
Akita Prefecture: 25%
Yamagata Prefecture: 30%

This is the first typhoon to form in August so far.
