Several towns in Maguindanao province were flooded due to heavy rains. Hundreds of houses were inundated as residential areas were flooded. Heavy rains have killed 72 people so far; 14 people are missing. 33 people were injured. According to reports, more than 7,000 people have been displaced from their homes and sheltered in camps.

According to the Philippine government, rescue operations are in full swing and 5,000 soldiers are involved in the rescue operation.

The Philippines experiences up to 20 typhoons a year. Rai is considered to be the worst storm in recent years. 208 people died in Cyclone Rai late last year. It is noteworthy that up to 6,000 people died in the last typhoon in the Philippines in 2013.
