Tyson Foods Recalls Over 29,000 Pounds of Chicken Patties due to Metal Contamination

WASHINGTON, Nov. 4, 2023 – Tyson Foods, Inc., a Berryville, Ark., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 29,819 pounds of fully cooked, breaded, shaped chicken patty product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today that the product may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal pieces.

The frozen chicken patties, which were produced on September 5, 2023, are packed in 29-ounce plastic bags labeled as “Tyson FULLY COOKED FUN NUGGETS BREADED SHAPED CHICKEN PATTIES.” The affected packages have a Best If Used By date of SEP 04, 2024, and the following lot codes: 2483BRV0207, 2483BRV0208, 2483BRV0209, and 2483BRV0210.

The establishment number “P-7211” is marked on the back of the package. The recalled product was distributed to distributors in Alabama, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin, intended for further distribution to the retail level.

The issue came to light after Tyson Foods received consumer complaints regarding small metal pieces found in the chicken patty product. It is important to note that there has been one reported minor oral injury associated with the consumption of this product. However, FSIS has not received any additional reports of injury or illness linked to the consumption of these potential contaminated chicken patties. Consumers who are concerned about potential injury or illness should seek medical attention.

FSIS is concerned that some consumers may have these products in their freezers. As a precautionary measure, consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged not to consume them. Instead, they should discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

To ensure the effectiveness of the recall, FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to confirm that the recalling firm notifies its customers of the recall and takes necessary steps to remove the product from the market. Retail distribution lists will be available on the FSIS website (www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls) once they are provided.
