União de Leiria Nacional won 2-1 this Sunday, in the third round of the Portuguese Cup, surprising the Liga Betclic team.
The Leirienses, who compete in the Liga Meu Super, scored in the first half and responded by equalizing Nacional with a penalty in the second half, also guaranteeing victory with a penalty.
Nacional appeared in Leiria with eight changes compared to the previous game, coach Tiago Margarido relying on players who were not used as much or did not even debut this season.
However, the Madeira team imposed itself during the first 20 minutes, creating two good chances, which Djibril and Isaac missed.
It was very difficult for União de Leiria to create danger and block the paths to their goal, but they scored first.
At a time when Filipe Cândido’s team was trying to loosen up a bit, Habib Sylla sent the ball into the area with a long throw and Marco Baixinho, in the small area, sent the ball into the goal unopposed, taking advantage. some passivity in the defense and a visiting goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in the 33rd minute.
Clumsy in attack and uncertain in defence, Nacional took a while to find their feet and could have even conceded the second goal, in a counterattack by Arsénio, in the 55th minute, forcing Rui Encarnação to make a good save for a corner.
From one penalty, with the hand of a defender in the Leiria area, the Madeirans managed to equalize, with Matheus making it 1-1 on the penalty spot.
But União de Leiria renewed the attack and, as Jair Silva escaped, Zé Vítor brought down the Brazilian inside the area. Also from a penalty, the Leirienses returned to the advantage, with a goal from Daniel dos Anjos after the penalty in the 79th minute.
Against a very unmotivated Nacional, Leiria was the closest team to scoring again, three times, shooting a ball at Rui Encarnação’s cross, with a shot from Christopher, at 90’+4.
