UACM elects its new rector

The University Council of the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM) appointed with 16 votes in favor the Master Juan Carlos Aguilar Franco like the new one rector of the educational institution.

This Monday, the plenary session of the University Council of the UACM, in its Seventh Legislature, submitted to a vote at the Historic Center campus the appointment of the new rector for the 2024-2028 period of the university.

After forming a shortlist to compete for the position, which was announced last week and was chosen through a consultation with the University Community, the councilors began the deliberation to choose the new representative, which, after six rounds of voting, resulted in the election of Professor Juan Carlos Aguilar Franco.

It should be noted that the electoral process of the university includes a period for filing Objections, which would begin to be received from September 4 to 6, and if there are no objections, the professor would be sworn in in the following days.

The new rector of the UACM has a master’s degree in science from the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Iztapalapa campus; in addition to serving as a professor-researcher at the UAM-I, the IEMS-13 Milpa Alta, and the UACM San Lorenzo Tezonco.

Within the UACM, the professor has held different academic-administrative positions such as three times Liaison of the Academy of Mathematics; responsible for the San Lorenzo Tezonco Integration Program; University Counselor in the Fifth Legislature, representing the academic sector of the College of Science and Technology of the San Lorenzo Tezonco Campus; and recently coordinator of the aforementioned Campus between November 23, 2021 and November 22, 2023.
