The UAE is the first country in the Arab world to produce nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. “This is another historic moment for the UAE,” said Ambassador Hamad Al Kabi, Permanent Representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the UAE and Deputy Chairman of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation Board of Management. He added that 14 years of hard work is the key to success.

Permission has now been granted after a detailed evaluation of the reactor design, cooling systems, safety arrangements, emergency preparedness, radioactive waste treatment and other technical aspects. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation has filed a 14,000-page license application for operating permits for three and four units.
