The United Arab Emirates is calling for a temporary international mission to be deployed in the Gaza Strip after the end of hostilities there to establish order in the enclave, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem al-Hashimi said on Thursday, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

“We need to start with a temporary international mission, officially invited by the Palestinian government, led by a new prime minister who has high competence, authority and independence,” The National quotes al-Hashimi as saying.

She stressed that the work of such a mission should be aimed at resolving the crisis in Gaza, establishing law and order, and should also help lay the foundations for a unified Palestinian government.

The minister stressed that Israel must also contribute to achieving this goal. In particular, according to her, the Israeli authorities must resume funding for the Palestinian Authority and stop building settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Al-Hashimi called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to her data, the UAE has provided Gaza with a total of more than 38.1 thousand tons of aid and will continue to support the Palestinians in coordination with the UN and international partners.

Earlier it was reported that last week representatives of the US, Israel and the UAE met in Abu Dhabi to discuss plans for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the end of hostilities there.

According to Axios, the UAE does not want Hamas to have anything to do with the future governance of Gaza, but is also skeptical about the current leadership of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). For example, the UAE considers the new Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa too close to PNA leader Mahmoud Abbas and therefore incapable of reform.
