Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to impose a ban on single-use plastic bags and will charge 25 fils for single-use plastics from July 1 this year. The aim is to implement the ban completely within the next two years.

From July 1, single-use plastic bags will be regulated in areas such as supermarkets, coffee shops, restaurants, online deliveries and pharmacies.

At the same time, the UAE aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2030. The announcement is part of the decision to achieve the Net Zero goal by 2050. The Paris Agreement called on the nations of the world to take steps to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. As part of this, the UAE government is taking steps to combat climate change.
