Government of SP sends more than 25 tons of humanitarian aid to help families affected by the rains in the municipality

The city hall of Ubatubanot north coast of São Paulo, issued a decree on Friday, the 8th, determining an emergency situation after the city was affected by heavy rains in recent days. At least five neighborhoods were isolated due to river overflows, according to the State government. In the Folha Seca neighborhood, the bridge that guaranteed access to the site was washed away by the current, leaving the region’s residents stranded. Due to the damage, the state government announced the sending of humanitarian aid to the municipality. A Military Police helicopter will help bring supplies to the affected regions. Between last Wednesday, the 6th, and this Friday, the municipality recorded an accumulated rainfall of 380 mm, 22% more than the average forecast for the month of March.

The emergency situation decreed by Ubatuba city hall is valid for 180 days from March 6th (retroactive) and aims to facilitate procedures for practical and urgent resolutions, such as granting funds to carry out works. The decree is signed by Marcio Gonçalves Maciel, mayor of the municipality. The State government informed that more than 25 tons of inputs, such as food, drinking water and hygiene and cleaning products, will be destined for people affected by the rain. Donations were made by Civil Defense, the São Paulo Social Fund and the company Minalba.
“Hygiene and cleaning products and food will be sent to the Tremembé warehouse, where teams from Ubatuba city hall will be able to collect them,” he said. The rains also caused landslides on the Oswaldo Cruz highway (SP-125), which remained closed until Friday, and tree falls on the Monte Valério road, according to information released by Civil Defense.
