Ubisoft Releases Just Dance: Decades of Hits With New Adventure Mode

The game features 35 songs spanning six decades of music and introduces a story-driven Adventure Mode where players rescue Dr. Gigavolt by dancing through themed musical worlds.

The latest entry in the rhythm franchise shifts its focus toward a generational appeal, organizing its tracklist by era from the 1970s to the 2020s. While the core experience remains centered on local multiplayer for up to six players using smartphones as controllers, the addition of Adventure mode introduces a narrative layer to the typical song-selection loop. This mode utilizes an overworld that players glide through, featuring pop-up stages that signify the songs to be danced.

In the new Adventure Mode, players follow Lyra on a playful journey through time across six decade-inspired worlds. The goal is to rescue Dr. Gigavolt by dancing to iconic songs and discovering fun activities.

The implementation of this mode has received mixed reactions. One review described it as lighthearted fun and a pleasant surprise that provides more structure than simply chasing high scores, noting the theme is clear enough that an eight-year-old could comprehend it. However, that same report noted a significant flaw: the Adventure mode is not mandatory to access the song catalog, meaning players can skip the story entirely if they prefer.

Tracklist and Choreography Across Six Decades

The game includes a total of 35 songs, with the 2020s representing the largest portion of the catalog with nine tracks. Estelle Manas, the Choreography Director, explained that she aimed to create dance routines that mirrored the tracklist’s journey through time, noting that dance styles reflect their specific era; she observed that 1970s moves are typically simple, easy to mimic, and emphasize a flamboyant, festive spirit of groove and style over technical perfection.

What’s fascinating about exploring several decades is seeing just how much dance reflects its era. In the ’70s, you find a lot of simple movements that anyone can easily reproduce while adding their own personal touch. In a rather festive, even flamboyant spirit, it’s not about perfection, but rather about style and groove.

To ensure inclusivity, Manas stated the team strives for variety in emotions, worlds, and characters, including seated choreographies for players with limited mobility. The tracklist spans a wide range of artists and styles.
