Along with the announcement of a number of new games that will come to the PC and consoles over the next two years, Ubisoft also announced during an event it held recently about a large-scale collaboration with Netflix, in which the company will develop three mobile games that will be exclusive to the game service.
One of those games is a brand new game in the Assassin’s Creed series, which will of course be specially adapted for control using smart phone devices. It is not yet known in which period exactly the game is supposed to take place and if it is an action and stealth game or if it is in a completely different genre. Since Netflix has already announced in the past that it is producing a TV series based on the popular gaming brand, it seems likely that the game will accompany the series – if not in the actual story and characters, then certainly in the release date that will be close to the broadcast.
Another game that Netflix subscribers will enjoy is a sequel to Valiant Hearts: The Great War, a puzzle and adventure game that Ubisoft released in 2014 and which takes place during the First World War. A brand new story is guaranteed, although the style is expected to be very similar to the original game. A third game under the agreement is a new mobile edition for Mighty Quest. The games in the series so far have been action and role-playing games, but this time it seems that the game will be closer to the popular “roguelike” genre.
Netflix, let’s recall, launched its gaming service almost a year ago, but in the meantime it seems to be a commercial failure: a minority of subscribers actually download and play these games, and none of them have become hits. Netflix repeatedly mentions that for them this is a long-term investment, and the company is currently in a “learning process” in order to understand how it can provide the best and most interesting gaming experience to its customers.
