Valentino Rossi’s celebrations during his time as a professional MotoGP rider always had a certain sense of humor. His horny ‘sketches’ had a deep preparation behindand there were not exactly a few who starred in ‘The Doctor’ after getting excited about winning races and world championships.
Among the most epic and remembered, for example, when Rossi won in Mugello 1997 and He rode with an inflatable doll on top of the motorcycle (some saw it as a mockery of Max Biaggi, who had announced that Naomi Campbell, his girlfriend at the time, would attend that GP). Behind such preparation there was a name: Uccio Salucci. His close friend and assistant was in charge of helping him with these funny gags. “The gags, the sketches, have always been nonsense, but not completely. They helped Vale relax, because remember that he was very young when he started winning the first World Championship.”, Uccio a now reveals Sky.
Uccio remembers of those times that “It was a difficult situation, especially in the early years of 500 and MotoGPwhen he was already a superstar, but he was only 22 or 23 years old and wanted to bring the atmosphere of Tavullia to the circuits”.
The Italian remembers that Rossi always “Before going to sleep he asked if the skits were prepared, if everyone knew their place, if the commemorative t-shirts had arrived… And I told him to stay calm, to go to sleep because the next day we would be competing in the world championship.”.
About ‘The Doctor’, his close colleague says that “He was always very attentive to these details”, y that “the concept is always the same, always being a little stupid, being ironic, joking. 70% was instinct, 30% was planned and reasoned”. They were also aware thatIt is normal and important because making fun of yourself, playing when you are 30 years old is different than when you do it at 17”.
Regarding how they prepared these jokes, the answer was found in the Italian fan club, who helped him prepare everything: “I remember that we always met together in the Fan Club to study the gags”says Uccio.
“The ideas were always from my father or Flavio Frattesi, We were worried because they really were two idiots and then we decided that it was better to meet to talk about it, to explain what they wanted to do.”explains the now team director of the VR46 in MotoGP.

“Ok and I laughed like crazy like the bowling thing: they introduced us to two or three and we chose the least stupid one.“, says Uccio about a past era that certainly set a precedent. Some of his rivals like Biaggi did not take these types of attacks well at all. For example, that inflatable doll in reference to his girlfriend only exacerbated the war between them.
