Jean-Luc Warsmann experienced a restless Saturday in his Ardennes constituency. The UDI deputy was floured on Saturday during a demonstration in Sedan to defend the city’s maternity ward. The author of the gesture was taken into custody, according to a police source.

During this demonstration, according to the images broadcast by France 3 Champagne-Ardenne, a man approached the deputy and poured a bag of flour over his head, before shouting in particular “he deserves it, that’s 40 years that he is an impostor” and “the death of public services, it is him, he deceives the people”.

The Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the Ardennes indicated that this man had been arrested. He was “placed in police custody on the charge of violence without incapacity on a person responsible for a public service mission during a public demonstration”, confirmed the prosecutor of Charleville-Mézières, Magali Josse.

Jean-Luc Warsmann for his part indicated that he had filed a complaint. “I was attacked, everyone present was shocked by what happened,” he reacted. Member of the third constituency of the Ardennes, which includes Sedan, he has been a member of the National Assembly since 1995. “No cause, no claim can justify the aggression of an elected representative of the Republic. Let us be careful never to trivialize gestures that damage our representative democracy, ”reacted Senate President Gérard Larcher on Twitter.

According to the DDSP, the event brought together between 400 and 450 people. The demonstrators, some of whom marched symbolically with empty strollers, intended to defend the maternity hospital in Sedan, threatened with closure.
