UEFA Champions League 2024/25: Key Dates, Teams, and Format Changes Ahead of the Draw

by time news

The wait is over. Alongside the Bundesliga 24/25 and the DFB-Pokal 24/25, the UEFA Champions League 24/25 also kicks off a new round. This season, there will be several changes. From a German perspective, FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and VfB Stuttgart will compete. This season is particularly special for Bayern. The final will take place in 2025 at the Allianz Arena in Munich – the home ground of FC Bayern.

The final is still some time away, but what matters more at this point is which teams will be playing against each other. The group stage format from previous years with 32 participating teams will no longer exist. Starting from the 2024/25 season, there will be a league phase featuring all 36 participating clubs. Smaller clubs will have the opportunity to play at the European top level thanks to this change. The league phase begins, as revealed by the Champions League schedule, on September 17/18. Each team will play one match against eight different opponents, with four home and four away games. The opponents will be determined through a draw, in which the teams will be divided into four equal pots. When the draw will take place, how the broadcast will proceed, and which teams will go into which pot will be detailed in this article. We have compiled the details for you.

Champions League Group Stage 24/25: When will the draw take place?

The draw for the Champions League group stage 2024/25 will take place on Thursday, August 29, at 6:00 PM in Monaco. Not much is known about the procedure yet; UEFA will announce the information on the day of the draw.

This year’s procedure is very complex, which is why the draw cannot be carried out completely manually. The previously used balls will be replaced; instead, computer software will be used to allocate the teams. Even the home advantage can be taken into account. The teams will be divided into four pots, sorted by the coefficient rule. For each club, this will mean two teams from each pot.
