by time news

Time.news – For Uefa the next European football championships, scheduled from 11 June to 11 July, they will have to play with stadiums open to the public. The traveling edition involving 12 cities, postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, could therefore change formula and locations based on the situation of the epidemiological curve of the various countries and the measures that governments will want to adopt in view of the event.

“If a city were to propose a scenario behind closed doors, scheduled matches ‘could’ be transferred to other cities which have the capacity to welcome spectators “, the European body told the AFP agency. The places designated to date are Rome, Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, London, Munich and St.Pietroburgo.

One possibility, that of postponement, which had already been mentioned by the president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, in an interview with the Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti: “The Euro 2020 matches will not be played in front of empty stands” and all countries hosts “will have to guarantee the presence of the fans”.

The European body gave each city time until April 7 to “present their scenario”, from open to closed stadiums through various attendance percentages, and expects to make a decision “at the latest” at the meeting of its executive committee scheduled for April 19, on the eve of the congress year of Montreux.
