The UEFA has decided to give more prominence to the players and the fans in the debates affecting European football through its two main representative bodies, as announced by the agency on Thursday.

The governing body of continental soccer described it as “a transcendental step” the decision this Wednesday of its Executive Committee to integrate the voices of the players, through FIFPRO Europe, and the fans, through Football Supporters Europe, in its decision-making process.

These two parties, which he considers “influential”, will from now on occupy specific seats in the relevant permanent committees, joining the current members of the national federations, leagues and clubs. “By including these important perspectives, UEFA create fuller debates and ensure more voices are heard and counted when it comes to shaping the future of sport,” said the body chaired by Aleksander Ceferin.

In addition, UEFA also announced the creation of new bilateral participation platforms specific to stakeholders, which will further increase the opportunities for dialogue and understanding. These action-oriented advisory councils will not only complement UEFA’s annual Convention on the Future of European Football, but will also forge unique channels of communication for each stakeholder group to work directly with UEFA.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stressed that all these actions are framed “to foster a more inclusive, robust and transparent governance framework for European football.” “We are resolute in our commitment to work hand in hand with all those who care about sport and its open system based on meritocracy and solidarity,” he warned.

“With the introduction of these reforms, UEFA is reinforcing the European football pyramid, strengthening its integrity and ensuring its sustainability long-term for the next few years. Together, we are shaping the way forward for the healthy development of this precious game,” said the Slovenian coach.
