In 2020, the University presented a proposal for “Home Connectivity for Students without Internet Access at the University of El Salvador”, for young people with limited resources. According to statistics from the University’s Information Technology Department (DTI), of 55,000 students, 11.5% of university students did not have internet access; this percentage corresponds to 6,195 university students.

The first proposal of the UES consisted of providing a service named: Access Point (APN1) that connects to 4G or 3G networks and links to the network of the alma mater; that is, a data plan service will be contracted so that through a SIM card they can reach the network infrastructure and services of the higher education center.

While a second alternative to provide internet to university students who do not have the service is to provide a subsidy. However, so far it is unknown what happened to these alternatives that the state university sought to implement.
