Detergents, fabric softeners, dishwashing liquids, household cleaners… Many cleaning products contain allergens without mentioning them on the labels, a legal but judged practice “inadmissible” of UFC-Que Choisir, Thursday 24 October.
The association tested sixty cleaning products to identify the presence of allergens when their labeling is mandatory, above a certain threshold, and thirty-one for which it is not.
For cosmetics, manufacturers will be obliged to report their presence ” news “ substances that could trigger allergic reactions starting from summer 2026, but this obligation does not concern, for the moment, cleaning products, underlines UFC-Que Choisir.
Deception about “hypoallergenic” products.
Of the sixty products tested, twenty-seven “contain one or more of these new allergens”the association reports, and only one product mentions it on the packaging. The use of allergenic perfumes also concerns four products presented as “hypoallergenic”deposit “sensitive skin” OR ” sensitive “detects the association, identifying a “lack of information” consumers, which is not against the law.
“This opacity is all the more unacceptable as the list of new allergens has been known for a long time” for the cosmetics sector. The UFC-Que Choisir is therefore asking this “immediately extend the labeling of new allergenic fragrances to detergent products” et “strictly regulate the mentions of “hypoallergenic”, “sensitive skin” or “sensitive” type, in particular by prohibiting them in the case of the presence of an allergenic or irritating compound”.
