Uganda’s blacklist of financing transactions

by time news

SriLankan Airlines has received bookings for the delivery of 102 tons of printed paper from Colombo to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda in February 2021.

The airline said in a statement that the package was fully operational and provided an opportunity to bring in foreign exchange to the airline and the country.

SriLankan Airlines has leased an aircraft from a British freight forwarding company to transport printed Ugandan currency to various factories around the world, including Sri Lanka, where the Ugandan government operates pre-arranged, secure printing operations.

On February 21 last year, it was reported that SriLankan Airlines, which had loaded more than 100 tonnes of goods, had flown to Entebbe three times in a row.

The matter came to light following information posted by the Sri Lanka Pilots Association on social media.

SriLankan Airlines said in a Twitter message that the information was misrepresented and various issues were being reported.

SriLankan says the company’s aircraft, which did not operate in the midst of COVID conditions, was leased by a British freight forwarder and was able to receive foreign exchange.

Some incidents in the past between Uganda and Sri Lanka have raised many questions.

The latest such incident was the visit of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to Tirupati in a private jet in December last year.

The high-cost jet flew from Entebbe Airport in Uganda to Ratmalana Airport to pick up the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, in the international community, Uganda is currently recognized as a country that does not take action to prevent financial crimes, including money laundering.

The FATF, also known as the Financial Action Task Force, says it is taking steps to blacklist Uganda’s financial transactions.

The organization has taken this action due to its inability to prevent financial crimes, including money laundering.

The European Union has also named Uganda a high-risk country for financial security.

With Uganda having so many problems with finances and transactions, shouldn’t people need to know about transactions made with the money of our people?
