Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) creates ‘Starlight Garden’, a citizen communication platform connecting the park, pedestrian path, and plaza, under the theme of ‘Beautiful Walk Starlight Road’ on the lawn plaza in front of City Hall to provide hope and light to citizens.

The creation of this Starlight Garden was planned to deliver comfort and hope to citizens amid social and economic difficulties, to end 2024 meaningfully and to welcome 2025 as the beginning of joy.

Three-color light-emitting diode (LED) Milky Way lights and tree balls of various lights are installed in the 140m section from City Hall to Uijeongbu Station and the 2,000㎡ lawn plaza to create an emotional space. In addition, we plan to promote sustainable operation by introducing an automatic lights-off system that takes the environment into account.

The Starlight Garden will operate from sunset to 11 p.m. every day until February 2025, and its soft light is expected to bring a warm touch to the daily lives of citizens.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “I hope that the Starlight Garden will become a small resting place in everyday life for citizens, and that it will become a spark of hope to overcome the various difficulties facing our society together.” He added, “End this year with gratitude, and 2025 “I look forward to starting the year with joy,” he said.

The city plans to make every effort to maintain the surrounding environment by prioritizing citizen safety and convenience during the Starlight Garden operation period. In addition, we plan to do our best to ensure that Starlight Garden serves as a catalyst to revitalize the local economy.

Meanwhile, Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 24th that the restoration project targeting Nokyang-dong Sports Complex was selected for the ‘2025 Ecosystem Conservation Fee Return Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Environment and secured a budget of 450 million won.

The ecosystem conservation fee refund project is a system that allows up to 50% of the paid fee to be refunded when the ecosystem conservation fee payer or natural environment conservation project agent implements a natural environment conservation project with approval from the Ministry of Environment. Efforts are being made to promote restoration.

This project will be carried out in the same area as the ‘Sports Complex Sports Facility Site Environmental Cleanup Project’, which is part of the ‘Citizen Leisure Sports Town Creation Project’. By selecting the return project, some of the necessary budget was saved.

The city plans to transform damaged spaces into spaces where citizens can enjoy nature and heal by creating flower gardens, artificial wetlands, and ecological education spaces through the return project.

Kim Jin-soo, head of the Sports Department, said, “We were selected for a public contest during a financially difficult time, which laid the foundation for project promotion.” He added, “We will continue to actively participate in central government contests and secure national funds to reduce the city’s financial burden and provide sports facilities necessary for citizens.” “We will provide a rest area,” he said.
