by times news cr

Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) is implementing various welfare projects to ensure a stable old age for the elderly in preparation for the rapidly advancing super-aging society.

In particular, ‘Elderly Customized Care Service’ and ‘Emergency Safety Reassurance Service’ are receiving attention as representative projects that protect the health and safety of the elderly and prevent social isolation.

□ Strengthening the safety net for the elderly… ‘Senior-tailored care service’

The elderly-tailored care service is a project that provides customized safety checks, social participation support, provision of goods, and housekeeping support to elderly people aged 65 or older who need care.

The target group is ▲national basic livelihood security recipients ▲lower-income class ▲basic pension recipients or senior citizens who do not use similar overlapping services among occupational pension recipients whose income and assets are below a certain standard.

Currently, 202 life support workers are providing services to 2,835 senior citizens through four implementing organizations (Nokyang Integrated Social Welfare Center, Nanumui Spring Senior Citizen Support Service Center, Songsan Senior Citizen Integrated Welfare Center, and Singok Senior Citizen Integrated Welfare Center), and the plan is to discover approximately 200 additional recipients this year.

□ Safe summer vacation for the elderly… Checking on their well-being in preparation for heat waves

In particular, this year, as the heat wave continues nationwide with the average temperature 1.3℃ higher than usual, 202 life support workers are checking on the health of the elderly who are vulnerable to heat waves every day to protect their health.

We took every precaution to prevent heat-related illnesses, including providing guidance on how to prepare for heat waves and how to use heat shelters, and no dangerous situations arose due to heat-related illnesses.

In addition to this, we are continuously managing the elderly by providing emotional support along with periodic check-ups to ensure that they do not feel socially isolated.

□ Support for the psychological stability of the elderly… Specialized service to prevent deaths from loneliness and suicide

The city also offers specialized services for older adults at high risk for social isolation and depression.

We are helping to stabilize the psychological health of reclusive elderly people who are isolated from their families and neighbors, as well as depressed elderly people who are at high risk of dying alone, through group programs, self-help meetings, depression treatment, and medication support.

These programs are helping older people break away from their isolated lives, form new social relationships, and regain meaning in life.

□ Real-time management of emergency situations… ‘Emergency Safety and Security Service’ utilizing information and communication technology (ICT)

The emergency safety and security service is a care project targeting elderly people living alone, elderly couples, and grandparent-headed households who have difficulty receiving help in emergency situations.

Equipment that uses information and communication technology (ICT), such as activity detectors and fire detectors, is installed in target households to automatically report to 119 in the event of a fire or emergency, enabling emergency management personnel to respond quickly.

The project is being carried out at Songsan Senior Welfare Center, and real-time inspections (monitoring) are being conducted by installing equipment in 880 households of high-risk elderly people living alone. In the first half of the year alone, 108 emergency situations were handled, and 41 of them involved responding to dangerous situations involving the elderly by dispatching them together with the fire department.

The emergency safety and security service not only provides a quick response to emergency situations, but also provides great psychological stability to elderly people with underlying illnesses or households at high risk of emergency situations.

□ A city where seniors are happy… Contributing to improving the quality of life for seniors through customized welfare

The city is expanding various welfare projects, including customized elderly care services, emergency safety and security services, home care for the elderly, and gap care for the elderly.

Through this, we plan to actively support the elderly to relieve their loneliness and anxiety and enjoy a happier old age.

In particular, we will continuously improve service quality by reflecting the needs of the elderly through service satisfaction surveys and inspections (monitoring).

You can apply for customized elderly care services and emergency safety and security services at your local community center.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “Uijeongbu City, which aims to be a city where seniors are happy, separated the Elderly and Disabled Department into the Elderly Welfare Department in July and established the Elderly Care Team to provide more specialized and detailed welfare services.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that everyone can enjoy a happy old age through welfare policies that seniors can feel.”
