by times news cr

Uijeongbu City (Mayor Dong-Geun Kim) announced the Yong-Hyeon edition of Season 2 of the ‘Uijeongbu Upgrade Project’ on the 16th to further improve the living environment of citizens.

The city plans to promote 18 detailed projects with the goal of making Yonghyeon ▲a Yonghyeon good for business ▲a Yonghyeon worth walking ▲a Yonghyeon with convenient transportation ▲a Yonghyeon with a good residential environment.

□ Attracting businesses to create quality jobs… Yonghyeon, a good place for businesses

Immediately after the launch of the 8th local government, Uijeongbu City established a ‘Corporate Attraction Team’ and spurred efforts to attract companies.

Quality jobs from companies lead to increased urban income, and when this income is invested, infrastructure is improved. Improved infrastructure is reflected in a high-quality living environment. Young talents that companies want will always gather in places where it is good to live.

The city signed a 352.5 billion won data center investment agreement in the Yongyeon Industrial Complex in January of last year. The idea is to secure core infrastructure for revitalizing the information and communication technology (ICT) industry in the era of the 4th industrial revolution through this agreement, and to lay the foundation for the establishment of the Uijeongbu Information Technology (IT) Industry Cooperation Zone (cluster). Starting with the construction permit in July, construction is scheduled to be completed and operation to begin by 2027.

The former Lotte Mart building in Yonghyeon-dong is now the location of the Gyeonggi Northern Headquarters of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). Starting with the signing of the ‘Regional Mutual Development and Office Relocation Business Agreement’ with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) in April of last year, the relocation of the office building was completed in June of this year after major repair work and interior renovation (remodeling).

The Gyeonggi Northern Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is a large-scale organization with an investment plan of 4.4 trillion won this year alone. It is expected that the ripple effects will be greatly expanded, such as the revitalization of local commercial districts and job creation, due to the increase in floating population through visits by headquarters and business unit employees and visitors, and the additional move-in of related companies. In particular, the revenue of Uijeongbu City is expected to increase significantly through the payment of corporate local income tax.

Last March, the city signed an investment attraction agreement with biotechnology company Sijibio Co., Ltd. for ‘promotion of cutting-edge industries and recruitment of local talent’. Sijibio is a biotechnology regenerative medicine pioneering company (venture company) leading the field of bone and skin regeneration. Sijibio plans to create quality jobs by acquiring local company Inosys and investing an additional 10 billion won in facilities in addition to the 32.5 billion won already invested, and by strengthening industry-academia cooperation for recruitment of local talent.

In May and June, street performances were held to revitalize the Yongyeon Industrial Complex. This event, which took place every Wednesday for a total of six times, was implemented to provide diverse cultural performances to workers and residents of the industrial complex and to inject vitality into the complex.

In order to create a Yonghyeon that is good for business in the future, the city will work to eliminate various regulations that hinder urban development and to create a city that is good to live in, such as an eco-cultural city that people want to walk in, a city with convenient transportation, and a city good for raising children.

□ A waterside park and a yellow dirt road in the city center… Yonghyeon where you want to walk

The central value of the 8th elected municipal administration is to build a ‘city where people want to walk.’ The city is working to secure sustainable urban competitiveness by establishing the nation’s first ‘Walkable City Bureau’ through organizational restructuring and valuing citizens’ quality of life and happiness.

First, in April of last year, the ‘Songsan 1st Waterside Park’ was created at the confluence of Buyongcheon and Minrakcheon (731-1 Minrak-dong) and opened to the public. The yellow dirt road where residents can walk barefoot, the urban forest road surrounded by metasequoia and strobus pine trees, and the grass square have become healing spaces in the city where residents can walk and rest.

A 440m long walking path was created for local residents and workers in the green space near Yonghyeon Industrial Complex (Yonghyeon-dong 527-6). At the beginning of the walking path, there is a garden of various flowers and moss, such as goldenrod and rock azalea, and in the middle section, there is a garden with various plants, such as morning light and green light. At the end of the walking path, exercise equipment and table benches were installed to create a green forest path that the whole family can enjoy together.

At Darimok Neighborhood Park (736-2 Minrak-dong), a ‘barefoot dirt road’ and green space will be created to provide a pleasant walking environment for residents, and the project is currently underway with the goal of completion in the second half of the year.

Stairs were built on the embankment next to Songsan Bridge 1 to improve accessibility to the riverside walking trail for citizens using Buyongcheon Stream, and it was also connected to the picnic path to create a comfortable walking environment for residents.

The city is also working to provide a safe pedestrian environment for its residents. It installed a fire extinguisher in the residential area behind Jangmi Apartment (Yonghyeon-dong 33-1) to prepare for fires, and replaced the old road lighting facilities in the area around Yonghyeon-dong 565 with high-efficiency light-emitting diode (LED) lighting to brighten up the dark night streets.

□ Operation of student school buses to improve convenience of commuting… Yonghyeon with convenient transportation

The commuting environment for students who have been suffering from long commute times will be improved. Starting on the 13th, the city, in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Uijeongbu Office of Education, began operating a ‘student-only school bus’ that connects homes and schools via the shortest route during commuting times.

Large buses with 40 or more seats will be operated once to get to school (at 7:50 AM) and twice to get back home (at 3:20 PM and 5:10 PM), and it is expected that the average one-way trip will be shortened by 20 minutes (1 hour → 40 minutes), and up to 30 minutes, compared to using existing public transportation.

Buses Student 02 (Songsan Public Housing Complex 7 and Songsan Public Housing Complex 1 and 9), Student 03 (Songsan Station), and Student 06 (Shindobranew Apartment Entrance) run through Yonghyeon-dong to Uiyeo High School, Ganeung Elementary School, Uijeongbu District Court, and Kyungmin University.

Bus routes 1-7 (Uiyeo High School – Ui Gong High School – Ui High School) also began passing through Heungseon District High School, making it easier for students and residents to access the western part of Uijeongbu. In addition, Uijeongbu Public Bus Route 01 was extended to Surak Terminal, improving residents’ accessibility to Line 7.

The number of intercity buses for residents commuting to Seoul has also increased. In December of last year, the G6000 (11➔13) and G6100 (7➔9) intercity buses were increased by 2 each, reducing the interval between buses by up to 5-10 minutes, providing a more comfortable environment for residents commuting to and from work.

In particular, residents of the eastern part of Uijeongbu can now use Incheon Airport more conveniently. The 7600 airport bus to Incheon Airport began operating in July. It departs from Dongsong Terminal in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do, passes Songyang Elementary School, E-Mart Uijeongbu Branch, Minrak 1st Apartment Complex, and Mangadae Intersection, and heads to Incheon Airport, making four round trips a day.

□ Yonghyeon, a place with a good living environment, including improvements to residents’ convenience facilities

The city is working to create a city where people can live comfortably by expanding public facilities and improving the safety and educational environment for children.

First of all, Songsan Senior Welfare Center, which was inconvenient to use due to its aging facilities, will be transformed. Through this new renovation (remodeling) project, the existing aging basement 1st floor and the 2nd floor above ground will be improved to provide a more comfortable environment for users, and construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

Also, on May 18, the ‘Bangama Village Residents’ Festival’ was held for local residents at Tapseokso Park (572 Yonghyeon-dong). This festival, in which over 1,000 people participated, provided a time for residents to come together and unite, operating various resident participation programs such as calligraphy and calligraphy.

Pedestrian signal voice guidance assistance devices have been installed at intersections around Yonghyeon Elementary School and Eoryong Elementary School. The city expects that the installation of voice guidance devices will help protect children from traffic accident risks and prevent safety accidents among children that occur due to failure to pay attention to signals.

In addition, the school environment of Yeongseok High School will be improved to ensure the students’ safe school life. A retaining wall will be built on the slope behind the main building, where there is a risk of landslides during rain, to prevent safety accidents.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “We will work to create quality jobs by attracting more companies to the Yonghyeon Industrial Complex and expand the ecology, transportation, and convenience facilities to create a Yonghyeon where people want to live.” He added, “We will carefully examine the projects being promoted and consider the residents’ perspective as we pursue them.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Uijeongbu Upgrade Project’ is a planned project to share the blueprint of Uijeongbu, a city that will change my life, with residents. The city is systemizing the projects in each area, such as transportation, commercial districts, culture, education, and welfare, that are being promoted by district, so that residents of the district can experience them more easily. The ‘Nokyang Edition’ is scheduled to be released at the end of this month.
