Frankfurt A week after the European Union (EU), the British antitrust authority has provisionally approved the multi-billion takeover of the software company VMWare by the US chip manufacturer Broadcom. The CMA announced on Wednesday that there was no substantial impairment of competition for important components for computer servers.

The EU had made it a condition of its approval that Marvell and other competitors have access to software interfaces for special network adapters, of which Broadcom is the leading manufacturer. In addition, the chip group must provide further technical support to rivals.
