The UK Armed Forces are experiencing more serious problems than the Labour Party, which came to power in the kingdom in early July, had previously thought. This was stated by the new head of the British Ministry of Defence, John Healey, speaking at the annual conference of the country’s ground forces.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, his words were quoted by the Sky News TV channel.

“We must be prepared to fight, but not to fight among ourselves. I would very much like to see old rivalries put to rest,” Healey said, calling for an end to rivalries between the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Army. “We know that all three services are facing serious challenges. The impact of reduced core strength, wasteful procurement, low morale, a crisis in recruitment and retention, and veterans not getting the services they deserve.”

As Healey acknowledged, the Labour government “now understands that all these problems are much more serious than we previously thought.” According to the minister, the Integrated Review of Security, Defence and Foreign Policy of the United Kingdom, which is to be presented in the first half of next year, will help find approaches to solving them. Former NATO Secretary General (1999-2003) Lord George Robertson, Richard Barrons, who headed the UK Strategic Command in 2013-2016, and former Senior Director for Russia on the White House National Security Council Fiona Hill have been tasked with working on it.
