LondonAccording to a recent report related to mental health and happiness, the United Kingdom is currently in a very poor position globally. Britain ranks second among the most unhappy countries in the world; Uzbekistan is the only country whose situation is worse. The UK ranks 70th out of 71 countries for overall mental well-being. Britain’s score is 49 compared to the global level of 65. The report notes a decline in happiness levels for the 18 to 24 age group after 2020. It also indicates economic recession and livelihood crisis.
The Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) is used to assess various aspects of mental health. The new report also reveals the pandemic’s significant impact on global mental well-being. The Global Mind Project’s “Mental State of the World” report, based on surveys of more than 400,000 people in 71 countries, shows a decline in mental health from 2020.
The people of the Dominican Republic are the happiest
Caribbean country Dominican Republic tops the list with the highest average MHQ (91) in the report’s 2023 rankings. After this are Sri Lanka (89) and Tanzania (88). In contrast, Uzbekistan has the lowest average MHQ (48) and the UK is second lowest with 49.

Among the ten happiest countries, after the Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka and Tanzania, Panama is at fourth place and Malaysia is at fifth place. It is followed by Nigeria, Venezuela, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Uruguay. After Uzbekistan and the UK, the ten most unhappy countries are South Africa, Brazil, Tajikistan, Australia, Egypt, Ireland, Iraq and Yemen.
