British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the kingdom intends to spend 2.5% of GDP on defense, and also announced that a strategic review of the defense sector will begin next week, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

“The review will set out the UK’s future defence strategy, the capabilities it needs and a roadmap to achieving 2.5% of GDP on defence,” Starmer’s office said in a statement.

“As we face multiple threats at home and abroad, we need to be confident that we are prepared to defend ourselves. That is why I have immediately ordered a comprehensive review to ensure the UK’s defence capability for the future,” Starmer said.

It is noted that the review will consider the nature of the threats facing London, as well as the capabilities needed to address them.

“This includes building our armed forces and making them combat ready, strengthening our defence partnerships, developing a new defence industrial strategy, ensuring our military personnel have the capabilities and skills they need, and implementing procurement reform,” the prime minister’s office said.

An important element of the Strategic Defence Review will be a special focus on deepening defence ties with NATO countries and other international partners.
