UK Travel Crackdown: Visas Now Available, 12 Euros to Go to London

by time news

Travelling for tourism in the United Kingdom will be increasingly similar to going to the United States starting next year: the requirement for a paid electronic visa called ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) will also be introduced for EU citizens, including Italians. The British Labour government has presented the details of the system that will come into force from 2 April 2025, with forms of exemption foreseen for those with a work visa or legally resident overseas. The extension of the ETA has long been planned also for short-term stays by holidaymakers from the Union, no longer covered by automatic freedom of movement within British borders based on the post-Brexit restrictions. All this translates into the need to pay 12 euros: this will allow multiple trips for stays of up to six months in the space of two years.
