Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian defense forces targeted Russian military equipment and weapons depots near the city of Kursk. The latest Ukrainian-made Neptune cruise missiles, specially designed for land strikes, were reportedly used in the attack. These missiles hit targets about 100 km from the Ukrainian border.

“On the night of July 31 our forces delivered a precision strike on a warehouse of Russian military equipment and weapons near Kursk,” said the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to sources, the strike successfully destroyed an aviation ammunition depot near Chalin Airport (military unit 75079) and a base belonging to the Main Directorate of Missiles and Artillery of the Russian Ministry of Defense (military unit 42699). Following the attack, large fires were reported in these areas.

The attack draws attention to the progress and deployment of the Neptune missile system, which Ukraine has been developing to expand its strike capabilities. Russian sources also confirmed that Neptune-MD missiles in a surface attack configuration were used in the strike.

Despite the obvious evidence of damage, Russia’s Ministry of Defense issued an official press release denying that the missiles had any significant impact on their military facilities – and claiming that the missiles had been intercepted.

The blow to Kursk shows that Ukraine is increasingly capable of delivering precision strikes deeper into Russian-controlled territory, Defense Blog writes.
