Ukrainian special forces launched an attack today on the Russian-occupied Kinburn Spit in the Black Sea, according to a report by Reuters citing Ukrainian military intelligence.

Ukrainian forces claimed to‌ have destroyed six Russian armored vehicles and killed approximately 30 soldiers.

The Ukrainian intelligence agency reported that the operation involved personnel from four divisions, collaborating with naval forces and other army units.

Russian forces captured Kinburn Spit, a peninsula jutting into the⁣ Black Sea, during the initial invasion of Ukraine⁤ in February 2022.

Vitaly‍ Kim, chairman of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, stated⁢ that controlling ‌Kinburn Spit‍ allows Russian forces to block access to the region’s ports.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have repelled the Ukrainian attack, reporting that some Ukrainian forces encountered ⁢landmines while others were targeted by ‍gunfire. Moscow ⁣alleged that 16 ⁢Ukrainian “saboteurs” were ⁣killed during the operation.

Ukrainian forces also launched an operation to capture⁣ the ‌Russian-occupied Tendrovka Spit, another Black Sea area south of Kinburn⁢ Spit, ⁢as part of the same operation, according to Reuters.
