Ukraine demands to convene the UN Security Council because of the intentions of the Russian Federation to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. It is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Ukraine expects effective action to counter the nuclear blackmail of the Kremlin by the UK, China, the US and France, including as permanent members of the UN Security Council, who have a special responsibility to prevent threats of aggression using nuclear weapons.

“We demand to immediately convene an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council for this purpose,” the statement says.

The Foreign Ministry also appealed to the Belarusian society to prevent the realization of criminal intentions to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus contrary to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The installation of nuclear weapons, according to the Foreign Ministry, will further turn Belarus into a hostage of the Kremlin and will have catastrophic consequences for the future.

“Ukraine calls on all members of the world community to bring to the criminal Putin regime the categorical unacceptability of its next nuclear provocations and take decisive measures to effectively deter and prevent any possibility of the use of nuclear weapons by the aggressor state,” the ministry added.

As UDF wrote, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a storage facility for Russian nuclear weapons is being built in Belarus in the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on the TV channel “Russia 24”.

Construction is progressing at such a fast pace that it is expected to be completed by July 1st.
