Moscow: More than 140 drones fired by Ukraine targeted several regions, including the capital Moscow, overnight, in one of the country’s biggest attacks against Russia so far, Russian officials said on Tuesday. Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov said drones targeted two multi-storey residential buildings in the town of Ramenskoye near Moscow, setting them on fire. It was the second major Ukrainian drone attack on Russia this month. On September 1, the Russian military said it had shot down 158 drones fired by Ukraine over more than a dozen Russian regions, which Russian media described as the largest Ukrainian drone attack since the start of the war. Russia’s Investigative Committee announced a criminal investigation into the attack, described as a terrorist attack. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said debris from a drone attack in Moscow on Monday fell on a private house on the outskirts of the city, but there were no casualties. He saw dozens of drones heading towards Moscow that were shot down by the army as they approached the city.
Russia claims to have shot down 144 drones
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it shot down a total of 144 drones fired by Ukraine over nine Russian regions. Meanwhile, Russia has attacked Ukraine with missiles, glide bombs and its own drones, killing more than 10,000 civilians, according to the United Nations. Ukrainian officials have complained that weapons supplied by the country’s Western partners fall short of the Ukrainian military’s needs and generally arrive long after promised. President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged defence companies to step up their production.
