Ukraine ends Russian gas transit / Day

by times news cr

Yesterday, January 1, in the morning, as previously planned, the transit of Russian natural gas through Ukraine to certain European countries, which until now had not refused to buy Russian gas, was completely stopped. Consequently, the absurd situation, according to many, has been stopped, when Ukraine, the victim of the Moscow Kremlin’s aggression, continued to receive transit money from the aggressor country – about 800 million to even a billion US dollars a year – and allowed Russia to earn about five billion dollars a year for gas supplies to European countries. reports AFP.

The cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine will cause the most problems for Moldova, which used Russian gas to operate its largest thermal power plant. The Moldovan government has already announced that it will introduce measures to reduce gas consumption by a third. Austria and Slovakia, which until now used gas supplied in transit through Ukraine, have announced that they have agreed on alternative gas supplies. Hungary and Serbia, on the other hand, will continue to receive gas supplied by the aggressor country through the Turkish gas pipeline in the Black Sea TurkStream.

A historical event

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine posted yesterday Facebook announced that at seven in the morning local time, in the interest of national security, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine was completely stopped and the gas transportation system in Ukraine operates in a mode that provides only for the supply of gas to consumers in the country. “We have stopped Russian gas transit – this is a historic event. Russia is losing its markets and will suffer financial losses. Europe has already refused to receive Russian gas. European initiative Repower EU reflects what Ukraine did today,” Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko was quoted as saying RBC-Ukraine.

Ukraine had warned its partners in Europe a long time ago that it would not extend the contract with the Russian gas company in 2019 Gazprom the concluded transit agreement, in order to prevent Russia from “earning additional billions with our blood”, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy put it.
