China has reportedly applied a deadly laser to an Australian ship that was sailing in the Gulf of South China. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has ordered a full military investigation.
But China has also denied the Australian allegations and accused Australia of spreading false propaganda. But instead of denying the laser’s use of China’s response, it has been argued that it was only a response to Australia’s invasion of China’s territory.
The incident took place on Thursday, according to the Australian Defense Ministry. The J8A Poseidon was flying through the northern part of Australia when laser beams illuminated the aircraft.
The Australian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the laser had come from a People’s Liberation Army Navy ship.

Morrison told the media on Monday that his government had not yet received any explanation from China following the February 17 incident, which was extremely dangerous and irresponsible.
Lasers can be a serious problem, as they can injure or temporarily blind pilots when these laser beams hit the aircraft, especially when they are taking off and landing.
Two years ago, the United States similarly blamed the Chinese navy. It was for the use of lasers when Poseidon planes flew over the Pacific. China has denied the allegations, saying the plane was circling at low altitude above its warship, despite repeated warnings.

At the same time, the Australian Prime Minister said on Monday that the Chinese naval vessel that had applied the laser to the Australian military aircraft was close enough to be seen off the coast of Australia and therefore China should conduct a full investigation into the incident.
Australia has said the Chinese navy ship was inside Australia’s exclusive economic zone, and a Chinese guided-missile destroyer, as well as a cargo ship capable of navigating land and sea, was on its way east through the Arafura Sea between New Guinea and Australia.
This laser application also indicates that the conflict is intensifying in the South China Sea, which China claims almost entirely.

Ahead of Mr Wang’s comments, Chinese military expert Song Chongping was interviewed by the Global Times, a government – run national tabloid.
He told them: “Australia is not ready to tell the public how close its aircraft has flown to Chinese ships, so people do not know if Chinese ships are being forced to take action as part of a defensive defense.”
But a senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Dr. Malcolm Davis told ABC News that “China’s current invasion of our exclusive economic zone is extremely hostile” and “absolutely unacceptable”.
