The Ukrainian military said on the 29th that it had attacked a Zenit oil facility in the Kirov region in the northeast, 1,500 kilometers from the border with Russia, with a drone.

It is located northeast of Moscow, where the governor said a fire broke out at an oil storage facility. Moscow is about 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The Ukrainian military also carried out drone strikes on the Russian cities of Voronezh, which borders Luhansk Oblast, and Rostov, which borders Donetsk Oblast.

In Rostov Oblast, the Atlas oil depot was hit, and in Voronezh Oblast, a battery was attacked by Ukrainian drones. Oil facilities in Rostov have been attacked by drones four times in the past two weeks.

Ukraine has been rapidly increasing drone attacks on oil facilities and other targets within Russian territory since a month ago, as Russian forces have been persistently attacking Ukrainian transportation hubs such as Poskovsk across the border in the center of Donetsk Oblast since the summer.

This was a notable operation even before the Ukrainian military crossed the Sumy region and made a surprise incursion into Russia’s Kursk region on August 6.

Ukraine has relied almost exclusively on its own drones to strike targets inside Russia, due to restrictions on the use of supporting weapons by Western allies.

Ukrainian drone strikes inside Russia, which began last spring, have mostly been concentrated in the Belgorod Oblast, bordering Kharkiv Oblast, although some have reached the outskirts of Moscow.

This is expanding to the Russian interior, with a flight distance of over 1,000 km this year.
