Washington: Diplomatic intervention of French President Emmanuel Macro to end the war in Ukraine and resolve issues through negotiations. Macro called for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden. Biden responded that the summit could take place if Russia guarantees that it will not invade Ukraine. But Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was not time to talk about the summit. Ukraine demanded that the summit not be held without their participation.

At the same time, Putin said that Russia would soon decide whether to recognize the rebel-held Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine as independent states. A bill recognizing these regions as independent states is being considered by the Russian parliament. The bill will be passed by parliament as soon as Putin approves it.

Ukraine says Russian reports of killing 5 Ukrainian soldiers crossing the border are false. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksi Resnikov has said that the news was fabricated by Russia to cause an invasion.
